Silkies
Silkies are renowned for their incredibly calm temperament, making them fantastic pets, especially for families. They are also instantly recognizable by their distinctive fluffy plumage, which feels like silk! We typically have a good range of colours available, including white, lavender, black, buff, and splash. While they lay small eggs, they are quite consistent layers throughout the year, averaging 2-3 eggs per week.
Polish
With their distinctive crest of feathers, Polish chickens are truly interesting-looking birds. Many people’s first reaction upon seeing them is a huge smile! They are very similar to Silkies in that they lay small eggs and are consistent layers all year round, averaging 2-3 eggs per week. Polish chickens are also very placid and friendly, making them excellent, gentle pets.
Light Sussex
The Light Sussex is a large, traditional multi-purpose breed, valued for both meat and egg production. They are easily identified by their striking white plumage and contrasting black neck feathers. From time to time, we may also have Buff Sussex available, which are particularly attractive. They lay a medium to large brown egg, and you can generally expect 3-5 eggs per week.
Rhode Island Red
Another robust member of the large fowl family, the Rhode Island Red has also traditionally been a multipurpose breed due to its size and excellent egg-laying capacity. Their rich red-brown coloured feathers make them quite distinctive. They lay a medium to large brown egg, and you would normally expect 3-5 eggs per week.
Buff Orpington
The Buff Orpington is a beautiful, larger, and incredibly friendly breed. Their placid and docile nature makes them superb pets, often described as gentle giants. They lay a large light brown egg, and you would normally expect 3-5 eggs per week. While they appear common these days, Buff Orpingtons are still on the rare breeds list, and we are proud to do our part in helping to keep this wonderful breed going.
Goldline (Hybrid)
Goldline hens are highly prolific laying birds, making them an excellent choice for consistent egg production. Many of the brown eggs you purchase in shops are from this hybrid breed. They are easy to keep and will provide you with a nice large brown egg, with an impressive expectation of 5-7 eggs per week.
Cockerels
We do sometimes have cockerels available. It’s worth noting that not all cockerels are noisy, and they often play a valuable role in managing the social dynamics and safety of a flock. Please inquire about current availability if you are interested in a cockerel.
